Our thesis begs the question of the correlation between greens and humans. Is there a connection between tying greens and human interaction? Are greens there to serve humans or vice versa? We looked deeper into our pending question with another lens exploring the effects of regional vegetation on the residential landscape, highlighting public and private tolerances that occur due to the varying thresholds of vegetation within the urban landscape. We examined the dynamic relationship between the health of the soil and its potential outcomes for future growth in the Portola Neighborhood investigating the influence of soil health on urban ecosystems, specifically examining soil types, contamination, and remediation efforts in the Bay Area. This site investigation/analysis thus informed decisions made in the VERTISCAPE studio project.
